I'd like to see a device that lets the car be driven for 5 mins, then locks all doors, sprays passengers in clear liquid  or a dye that 'taints' them as having been in that car, then shuts down the engine and sets off alarm. And calls police, sending a pic of people in the car and their location.

They'd be far away enough by then not to hurt the owner and the owner could have an extra wireless key that disarms the system when they're using the car. But the car will still start without it, only the system will be armed and active, with a audible warning a minute before alarm goes off.

Could have a manual override by entering pin via the radio buttons, if the disarming key was left at home or forgotten.

It could give a warning a minute before, then power gradually reduces until car is stopped. With engines being computerised it shouldn't be too hard.

Car theft would be a lot less attractive if there was an unknown risk-factor for the thieves. The only problem is one might wait in your house with you at gun point until the car has been driven for 10mins+ without anything happening. So maybe a remote activation would be better.

Forgetting all the alarm and dye stuff though, just having pics sent to a remote server would be quite simple to set up and might help lead to an arrest. If the camera could be hidden somewhere well enough.

Sorry to hear this, always been on my mind since having two nice cars - the guy down the road had his Evo nicked in the same way.

Well as of tonight the house has more sensors, alarms and deadlocks than i care to count and we will be getting more tomorrow for upstairs windows.

My girlfriend is still very shook up by it all and we both have about 4 hrs sleep between us.

The one thing stopping me having another R is her as she says they will come back again for it if i got another one, do i keep her or myself happy?

Next car will have a tracker and anti hijack alarm on it simple as that.

I usually put the car in the garage, but if im home late I leave it on the drive, as it is now (goes n checks its still there).

How many people use a steering wheel lock? I know they can be taken off if the criminals really want, but it adds extra hassle which may put them off n also creates more noise. Plus, if you get one like the Halfords Fotress its a useful baseball bat size which can come in handy incase you need to tw*t someone!
