If you have the money the ED30 is clearly the car to go for as it has the big tubby and 30bhp mroe as standard. Also I think the colour coded looks better although Im a bit of a Monza whore and prefer them.

obviously depends on your budget mate i would have loved a ed30 but couldnt quite stretch to it so bought a 2006 3dr silver gti and am more than pleased with it and as said the monza's do look very tidy on them and you could always go for a nice spec gti and coulour code the rear lower bumper and get a revo remap and wouldnt be much different to the ed30 by then apart from the dollar you save obviously, whats your budget is the question

^ very much what he said.

My GTI will be quicker than an ED30 although I have spent a bit on performance mods (although considerably less than the extra cost of an ED30). Colour code to do a proper job is expensive, I looked into it an soon gave up as it was just too much for what you are actually getting. If I had the extra money in the first place Id have bought an ED30 and done the same mods and been even quicker lol :D

At the end of the day it comes down to your budget - if you can afford the £15k for a decent ed30, then you should go for it. They are more tuneable and come with what you want as standard i.e. colour coding.

If you start comparing the price of a 55 plate gti vs. an 07 plate ed30 then there's bound to be a difference in price, however if you compare like for like then it's not as much as you think, especially when you consider that the money you might spend tuning/customising a gti won't add any value, when it comes to resale.

But it will still never be an Ed30...
