Mot fail - Subframe?
« on: 14 April 2009, 20:31 »
I have a golf to fix with a few problems...

*Front subframe corroded and seriously weakend

*Exhaust emissions carbon monxide conented after 2nd fast idle excessive

*Exhaust emissions hydrocarbon content after 2nd fast idle excessive

*Exhaust emeissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

I need a new subframe by the sounds of things,  im worried about the emissions as well,  with those readings is it more likely to be the Cat gone or an engine managment/sensor problem?

Any advice will be great!

Subframe....not good.

ETKA list the subframe as 238.00 euro.... pricey

You have given it a full service?

Stick some of this in when you re-mot it. Works well.

Subframe would be easier to fix, plenty of s/h ones around.

Yea its pricey but its not to much of a problem,  might get away with welding come to think of it.  The only problem is the whole engine needs to be lifted which is a pain as my hoist is tucked away at the moment  just being lazy really.

Anyway with all of those problems with the emissions i was worried there is an underlying problem, I have a spare cat,  so mabey if i clean up the lamby, fit the cat and run that cleaner through, it might pick up a bit,  i will scan it on vag-com first to see if it flags any faults up.

I was wondering if all of those emission problems in that combination is generaly caused by one thing being at fault.
