Alas the time has come
« on: 14 April 2009, 12:15 »
Well all after an encredibly enjoyable 18 months of ownership and 23,000 huhely enjoyable miles in her, the expanding family and strains of a small boot have left me with virtually no option but to part company with my GTI
I have almost sorted a deal on a 530d M sport with only the AA inspection in the way, all things being well the deal will go through on Friday.

many thanks for all the advice etc over the last year and a half

Cheers

Dont understand why you are getting rid!
I just upgraded to a 5 door GTI ED30, since my previous car was a small 3 door. I have two young kids (aged 3 and 1) and one of my main reasons for choosing the Golf was that I didnt want anything too big, but something with enough room to put the kids in, a buggy in the boot, and still have space for any shopping/bags etc. The Golf was perfect for me!

I have a baby seat and a booster seat in the back (helps when parking in the open spaces at Tesco ;) ) and can fit a double buggy in the boot, and still have some spare space for shopping.

Obviously your needs will differ to mine, and the 530d is a great looking car IMO, but was far too big for me! Dont think you will be making any cost savings with it though, even if it is a Diesel - may even end up costing more not just to run, but in parts/servicing etc?

The boot in the golf is so small I have not had the parcel shelf in place for over a year.
With the pram folded up, the boot is arsed
Shopping frequently overspills onto the back seat and if I am away for a weekend then it is a total nightmare getting all the gear in.
There will be no cost saving at all, but the 5 series is a different class, massive boot tons of space and looks the business
Oh and 230 odd bhp without a remap,
