Dropped suspension = reduced MPG??

Went to Oxford to pick up some new suspension the other day, was sitting on 80mm drop, which wasn't really feasible for me and my daily driving. So on the way up, flicked the MPG counter on, expecting to see an abysmal figure, and it was reading between 28 and 29mpg the whole way, which I was quite suprised about. Anyway, fitted the suspension, fronts now sitting pretty high (G60 springs on an 8v...obviously engine's not as heavy, so quite a hefty gap between the tyre and the arch  ) and standard at the rear. Drove to Fleet today, again, checked the MFA on the motorway, and this time it was reading between 31 and 32mpg, doing pretty much the same speed

It's because over-lowered suspension is ghey.

Being ghey takes a lot of energy, hence with over-lowered suspension you get higher fuel consumption.

Lovers of the ghey might well try and tell you 'that's the cost of being ghey' but I'm not buying it.  I don't need that sort of cost in my life.

As for the drop of MPG, it could do with weather, colder days less petrol is used due to more oxygen, and also even if you where doing same sort of speeds you could have been more/less agrissive getting to those speeds etc.

ALOT of factors could affect it mate, I wouldnt blame suspension for it.

more oxigen = more fuel used .   cold air  dose inprove an engines thermal efficency tho but it's not that noticable   and on most journys the fuel used during the cold start period will more than cancel it out.

  DH you actually had me laughing out loud.

And I was driving at constant speed (this was over 10-20 mins of motorway) and it was a much hotter day today (higher MPG) I just didn't think things like that would factor that much in fuel consumption. That's pretty much a 10% increase

every change of ride height requires tracking to be redone.  I wouldn't think a change could amount to 2-3mpg though.

As said, raising the ride height may have adjusted the geometry so there was less scrub on the front tyres, also in colder damper conditions the engine is more efficient so needs less throttle for a given speed and the wind could have been for or against you.

at the altitude his car is now sitting at the air is thinner so less fuel is needed as it has no air
