The noise is far from on all the time  :undecided: When in 6th driving round town (DSG) its practically silent!

....Even with a Milltek Non-Resonated, on any of the GTI/Ed30/R32, the exhaust sound is very quiet and civilised at low revs round town etc. Particularly so in DSG D-mode but you can use your gears on a Manual box to keep it quiet too.

I'm afraid I don't understand any 'enthusiast' who doesn't love a bit of zorst music! Especially a V6............or V8..............or V12 !! Straight-6's too !

ED30: Was not a big fan of the interlagos cloth, started to get a headache after a few minutes. If the ED30 had a leather option then I would have probably gone for that bt the dealer informed me that it wasn't an option available.

The ED30 is a half-leather setup anyways. These days I dont know how people can buy a full-leather car, gets dirty quickly and requires frequent attention to keep it looking its best. And then still its slippery as hell.

The ED30 half-leather setup reminds me of the Leather/Alcantara setup I have in my B7 A4 V6 TDi.

I am the same as Ifti and Pazz in that I was in an S3 and was fed up paying more for tax and fuel.

I could have bought any car but after doing a lot of research I found that the ED30 had everything I was looking for in a car.  Discreate but fast with more than enough room for passengers.  I have loved every minute of ownership and really don't see any reason to look for another car at the moment.

Went to the show room to get the gti. Salesman fire up the R32 (just to show me). I knew i had to have one.

Although the 4wd is often is said to take the fun away from driving I assure you turing off the esp made me think it was more fun than the Gti. Suprising how many people take one on a test drive and dont do this.

lookoutsmudger  , congrats on new arrival
what did the gti replace?

Cheers for that. The GTi replaced a Honda S2000.

I had an S2000 before my Ed 30 ... infact I've had two S2000's - and loved them both ... but the GTi is a superb car and I don't regret my purchase at all ...

I had this dilemma, was looking to get out of my cooper S, didnt care about the fact i had to make money u for negative equity.

Mate has a GTI and its awesome to drive, was sold on one untill he told me to look at the prices of the R32's, for the sake of the extra fuel (im a full tank a week) and 40 per month road tax (i put it away monthly) im happy.

ED30s are still holding their prices so the R seemed logical for me once i had test drove one and enjoyed it so much.

At the end of the day whether its a GTI, ED30 or R32 we own cars that we want everyone will have reasons for their choice.

....Absolutely spot on! If you can manage to do it, just do it! Life isn't a rehearsal.

I didn't really consider one because at the time i was buying unleaded was £1.20 ish and the road tax.

A month ago I heard a DSG R32 going up a slip road at full chat....  I've found my next car I reckon .  If only the front didn't look like a Jetta
