I had a modified Mk 4 R32 and was all set to sell it to get a Mk 5 R32. I decided on the spec, went in to order it and thought I'd just try an Ed30 to satisfy myself that I didn't want one. I'd never driven a turbo'd car before and I was blown away with the torque. I drove it back to back with a Mk 5 R32 and didn't feel that there was much difference in performance. I also considered the £400 tax and the fact that I could get so much more power out of an Ed30 for very little money, unlike the R32 for the same gains (I spent a fortune on my Mk 4).
Whenever I see a Mk 5 R32 I wish I'd got one, but the Ed30 is fun and a lot more nimble. I miss the sound and handling of the R32 but at least I've done the "R32 thing" once.
