can the 2 rear engine mounts be modded to lower the block?

as above
got a bargain of a supersprint manifold for mk2 8v, but i have a tall block agg fitted. so it sits 16mm higher

im not too fond of battering the tunnel, so can the 2 rear mounts be safely chopped, butchered to lower the back of the block?

i found a guide on the mkvr6 forum, but the pics have all gone!

depends how much you need? i needed a very small amount on my G60 so fitted a slightly taller and solid front mount, just tilts the engine enough for the 4 branch to clear.

i suppose i wont know until i get it fitted. had a solid mount in before and just didnt get on with it. il be welding a flexi into the manifold

You may get away without changing the mounts, try it and you may find it clears.

to be honest, im using the std manifold with a 1cm spacer and its perfectwe shall see!

i do not want to wrap the manifold, so whats the best way to protect the steering uj boot?

b, i cant be arsed 
c, iv just heard mixed stories about them cracking when wrapped, holding moisture, mine is mild steel.

i also knew a guy in his mk1, got oil on the wrap, and had a nice bbq under his bonnet!

Ahh fair enough!
You're meant to apply it wet anyway so I suppose doing that on non-stainless steel won't end well!
Also you're meant to spray the heat wrap with a protective spray to prevent damage (flames) etc

if i were to do it, id want to do it properly. and it seems to cost a small fortune, with ties, wrap, and paint!  as much as i paid for the manifold!

dosent cost that much to wrap it,  i would allways wrap a tubular manifold.  ans would never have a stainless one ether.

if you blow a rod out the back  of the motor and get oil everywhere  yes it'll burn but it'll do that anyway  been there done that.
