mid line high line comp

hi everyone iam new to this website looking to buy a mk 5 gti this maybe a stupid question but can someone tell me the difference between a mid line and hi line comp

i've asked this question before so let me summarise my findings:

mid line
only has bottom half lcd with average speed, average mpg, fuel range etc
the top half looks black with led lights for the likes of doors open, highbeam i think etc.

highline
is full screen lcd
the led lights you have on the mid line is else where on the dashpod
the extras is that when doors are open it has a bird eye view type to show which door, and has the extra benefits to be able to adjust home coming lights on for how long etc.

the functions of highline can be done at a dealer or with vag com

for me, high line looks better, but on the right car without it, i'm not going to worry too much

As he said, the highline has a full sized display, whereas the midline has a half sized display.
With the highline you get everythings thats displayed on the midline, but can change many more settings, like the coming home lights etc - you would need to connect via vagcom to set these via the midline computer.

Also, if you have sat nav installed, you can view directions via the highline computer - so you could, for example, stick a DVD on via your head unit for your passengers, while still be able to follow sat nav directions that are displayed on the highline display.

If you have Bluetooth installed, you can view your phonebook/missed/received/dialled calls via the highline, and I believe you can also read text messages - not sure if you can do this with midline at all.

IMO, the highline looks a lot better then the midline. It really should have been a standard feature in the GTI - but then again, its a way for VW to mak emore money I guess!

The highline and MFSW go hand in hand together - I have both and its a great combo

Yeah should have been standard.  It was only a £50 option but I think a lot of dealers were ignorant as to what it was and told people not to bother!

The lack of it isn't worth turning a car down though IMO

If you don't go for a car without highline, don't even think of retro-fitting it. I looked into it, and it was just waaaaaaaay to much hassle and cost. About £450.

My local stealers in hull.

I looked into ebay clusters etc, but they have changed the coding used. Therefore only VW can code clusters that have done more than 100 miles iirc, supposedly to stop clocking. Previously you could use VAG-commander.  Also depending on your CCCM version, this might need to be updated for the highline to work.

the guy is an electronics whizz although i think he mainly does MKIV stuff - might be worth dropping him an email as he's got all the kit to code clusters

highline is a luxury most peeps live without, yes its nice to have but dont rely on it for things such as oil levels etc as i had highline on my mk5 and it rarely worked well for things like this! if your fortunate to find a mk5 with highline then bonus but if not dont dispair is what im saying!
