Porsche 924
« on: 26 July 2004, 13:53 »
I was wondering if anyone had any experience of these cars.
They are, after all, a VW in all but name, and I think owning one could be a laugh.

I have just bought an Audi 100 to replace my A4, and the 924 has the same engine, a bombproof 2 litre 8 valver.
Combine that with a sporty chassis and a fully galvanised body - decent car ?
Certainly all the 924 websites rave about them, but then they would, wouldn't they ?

It would be nice to get an opinion from some 'dubbers.

Cheers,
Joe

I like them, they are a underpowered Porsche, but don't be put off by that.     I am still interested in a 944 S2, you can get a convertable on a J plate for under 8K now (with 80K miles and PFSH). They look good and are under rated.

Good luck.

924 Wheels don't fit onto VW's.

I got Hold of a BBS set & they are 4 stud 108's which is the same as the 4 stud Ford.  Which I thought was a bit strange, as German car studs are normally the same spec  ???

So now they are on my Dads Ford based Dutton Kit car  :'(

I remember that. Was you not able to get hold off adaptors? Just in case you want a set of BBS wheels, look on ebay at MX-5 wheels as these fit MK1 and MK2 Golfs. ;)

924 - pass it by - to slow and handling suspect.

They sorted it all out in the 944 - a much better car.

the peoples' porsche to the masses the 924, poor mans 911

they dont hold their value as well if at all as other porsches and even some porsche owners dont wish to consider it a true porsche.

the later ones where alot better 944 sorted even more.

get the kit that adapts the running gear of a vw beetle into a porsche speedster now that is a class car.

My parents have a 944, great car with superb handling, not quite as quick as my Audi but a lot more fun :)

Can't be certain of my facts here without looking up but I believe the 924 has the 5 cylinder Audi engine: superb, 924S has the Porsche engine.

The 924S has the same engine as the 944.
