I don't see anything broken there.  Is there another dealer nearby that you could try if you're not happy with what the first one comes back to you with?

Yup, although a bit further out - I cant see why it needs any new parts at all!
Need to go back to this dealer tomorrow as I ordered a paint stick as well, so will ask at the same time.
Its getting on my nerves though, just want it sorted!

doesn't look broken to me  :undecided:

looks like once you've got the clip loose you should just be able to slip the pipe over and let the clip down into place
...........same here, looks like the clip has just come loose ?.

I just went out and removed the entire air intake (only 2 torx screws).
I then removed the metal clip altogether to see if the hose would go on, and the still cant get the hose to cover the correct section of the engine cover either?!
Should it slide on easily, or does it take some welly?
Ive put the clip back on, and everything back as it was for now, in case the dealer moans, but I seriously cant see how or why this wouldnt be a warranty job? I mean, its not a piece that you need to maintain etc, or nothing that comes under wear & tear is it??!
If not, I'll take it to another dealer...

Went back to the dealer today. I asked him what was broken exactly, and he said the air intake hose itself looks like it has been 'manipulated'. He is letting the previous owner fight it out with the dealership he bought it from, but dont think it will get anywhere.

Will anything come of a complaint to VW Customer Services do you think?

Fooking stealers are useless,  take the inlet pipe off ifti and you will need to use some force to push it back into place cos the hose will have a collar inside so it can seat snuggly put the clip back in place then the flexi bit of pipe will stretch so you can get the pipe back into the inlet box(the bit that attaches to the slam panel...that pipe is not broke let your dealer know they stink and call VW customer service and tell them that this dealer tried to rip you off

ps I dont own a GTI but can see that pipe is fine. it is a similar setup on the GTtdi but my inlet hose isn't shaped like that.

I had EXACTLY the same problem a few weeks ago, after the dealers serviced the car. Like you, I couldn't manage to loosen the clip and refit myself, no pliers big enough!

So I called into the dealers, and it was a 30-second job! A mechanic just opened the spring-loaded clip with a large pliers, pushed the pipe in further, so it would grip more firmly, and re-attached the clip. Simple. It's been fine since.

The dealer who told you something is "broken" is talking crap.

TBH, Ive considered it!! lol
Will it affect my car warranty though??

Exactly what I thought. I did give it a try but its bloody hard to push the hose back up into place because of the collar. I just about got my mole wrench around the clip to open it a little, but the tool isnt the right size and flips off suddenly!Maybe I should try it after a drive when everything is warm and a little more flexible??

I rang VW Customer services today, and they said they tend to side with the retailer!!! They said I should go to another dealer and get a second opinion. If the other dealer states that it is a warranty job, and fixes it quickly (as expected!) I should ring Customer Services back and lodge a complaint fo rthem to deal with.

I may pop in to another dealer on Saturday - this dealer also fixed my mates GTI whose hose also had come off!

I even asked him what was broken, and he said the hose itself!!!
I asked him where, and he waffled around it and gave me no answer. I then asked how much to replace, and he couldnt even give me a price! He just said he would contact the dealer the car came from and see what they said, and get back to me!
Hasnt got back to me since!!!

I contacted the guy I bought the car from (he has a private dealership for prestige cars) and he said he would chase up his contact in the VW dealership where he bought the car and see what he says. Guess thats good of him to do since he could just turn around and say its not his problem I guess!

This has been a complete shambles from the start - and all for a 30 second job!!!
