Probably was a bit on the small side given that mine fitted comfortably round the clip.

I went to VW today and they said all their guys go home at 1pm on Sat, so I have it booked in for Tuesday to have it sorted. Hopefully the car will be fine until then since the intake covers most of the engine cover hole even though its not attached, as you can see from the pic....

why not just buy a cheap pair of larger pliers/ mole grips from a diy store/ tesco etc.
it may be a bit of a faff, but will be easier and quicker than going back to the stealers.
get a mate as an extra pair of hands to help.

I need to go back to the dealers to buy a paint stick for the odd touch up/stone chip etc, so will just get it done by them. The way I think of things is that when a car is covered under warranty, use that warranty!! lol

I had the same problem when I got my GTI.  Took it to the dealer near me and they fixed it on the spot in about 30 seconds - no questions asked, and no charge.  And my car is not under warranty.  Good luck!

OK, I just got back from the dealer.
They said it cant be fixed!!! He said it wont go back on as its broken and needs a new part, which may not be covered under warranty?!
Looking at the pic, does this sound right to you, or am I being ripped off?

He said he would give me a ring later to see if it was a warranty job or not, so will see what he come sup with, but I would argue the fact that it is warranty work!! Its not something that should come off or break with wear and tear is it??

That doesn't sound right to me - should be a really simple fix.  Can you take another picture, close up of the part, and post it?

I just tried gripping it as well as I could, trying to get an adjustable spanner thing to hold the clip, and greased the tube a little, but no joy!

Personally, it doesnt look broken or anything to me....

doesn't look broken to me  :undecided:

looks like once you've got the clip loose you should just be able to slip the pipe over and let the clip down into place
