Front engine mount questions
« on: 09 April 2009, 14:43 »
Hi guys.

I've done a search, but am after a bit more info :)

I'm having a stainless manifold fitted on Tuesday
Do I definately need to replace the front engine mount with one out of a 1.3 so as not to crack the manifold?
I got a quote from VW and the price was £90

Would a GSF one be any good?
They retail about £26 quid which is a bit more reasonable!

Car's a 1990 8v.

Just found a quote from RJ saying he's used them in the past with no bother.
However there are 2 part numbers coming up on the GSF site-
10141
10142A

Which would be the one to go for?

Cheers :)

I never heard of changing the engin mount. I have had a stainless manifold for over a year and no problems.

if the manifold has no flexi joint then solid front is advisable, but it depends how trashed it is

Cheers RJ!
Saved my ass then!
Was getting a lift over to GSF n thought I'd check the forum on the way
I was gonna get the other one at £26

I got a vibring one, with a vw part number and a little vw logo stamped on the metal.
it's the right part

Oakey I'm not sure if valvers have hydro mounts like late 8valves. The hydro mounts are meant to be fairly squishy :(
Also, when you fitted your manifold, was there a big change in exhaust note? :)

I changed it at the same time i fitted the milltek so yes there was a wee change in exhaust note there.

hydro mounts  were done for (noise, comfort less vibration )  most gti's had them.     late 16v's lost the gearbox hydro mount in favor of solid rubber 1.3 mount.

i'm running g60 rear engine, 1300 frount mount and 1300 gearbox mount    works very well
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

I'm looking forward to the new sound!
Louder = Good.

Paul-

It's a TSR 4-1 manifold.
They are made by Milltek and have Milltek stamped on them so I'm expecting good things
