After 10 years ownership and 50k miles my mother decided to buy herself a new Golf mark 6, so the 1998 Golf GTi mark 4 came home with me at the weekend

The car has been a shopping trolley and general A to B to the golf club and had a few scratches and minor blemishes relating to age. Car has been maintained mechanically well but mum never got her hands wet and always put it through the car wash and more recently over the years the hand wash shops.
On inspection the car appears clean but once the light was on the car the condition was obvious, cobwebs, scratches and a rough feel to the paint work.
Plan of action was a good wash using the 2BM with AG conditioner shampoo and a dry down using a waffle weave towel.
Wheels were washed first using AG Wheel Cleaner
Then 2BM as described above.

Then it was on to the claying, I used the Megs quick detailer with a the Megs clay bar, every panel was looking like this on the clay:

Taped up with 3m. Some areas were going to need more attention than others:
I am a detailing virgin and had practised my rotary polishing on friends cars and old panels so I decided on the mez compounding pad using G3 this had worked well for me in the practice sessions, most of the cobwebs were removed after 2/3 passes, I then moved on to the Megs #80 on the mez polishing pad, 3/4 passes and I was happy with the result, the whole car was done panel at a time.
For the bad door scratches I had to step up my skills and opt for the wet & dry method. I had recently brought some Mirka Abralon sanding discs from Polished Bliss 2000/4000 grade. I used the 2000 first and finished off with the 4000. Polished out using the G3 and then the Megs #80

Time was against me and it was a hand polish round with AG SRP and only one coat of Megs Mirror Glaze #16 paste wax. Tyres were dressed with Megs endurance using a Megs applicator.

One thing I have learned is that I don’t like the G3, having used it wet with a spray the stuff goes everywhere, any tips on how to stop this. It did dry out quickly which could have been the nice sunny day we had. Any suggestions on an alternative?
I now need to clean the engine and fully clean the alloys…Easter hols now so if weather holds out I’ll do these and post up the results.
I am happy with the results this took 8 hrs but I was just a little reserved on the scratches using the sanding pads so more work is needed to get the deeper scratches out.
Not bad for a girl eh?
