The MOT doesn't form part of the VW servicing routine so there is no need to have it MOT'd there.  But an MOT will cost you the same whether you take it to a back street dump or a VW garage.  In fact my local stealer was doing a half price MOT offer....

The cost of any repairs necessary will vary of course

But at least if you get the MoT done at a trusted independent, then at least you are getting a reliable second opinion.

dvla as of monday put the mot price upto £54.. we charge this, but we also run a 3+ club which offer a half price mot with annual service.
also, sometimes customers get sent half pice vouchers for mot... mainly when we havnt seen your vehicle for a while.

but no, as above, you dont have to get it motd at a vw dealer.. you dont HAVE to get it serviced at a dealer..

Lol, I just paid £20 for my MOT today ;)

Go to a council garage, they're less inclined to sell you stuff.

I disagree 100% with that, as, dvla set a price, say £54, garages then have to pay a certian amount to dvla for how many ever mot slots they want..( i dont know how much it is, but am sure £20 dont cover theres...)
I reckon for certain places, they do it on purpose, do it cheaper TO find things wrong, to make thier monies up. Plus, theyre maybe not as thorough as a main dealer for example.. as we had a car in not long ago that had an mot done at a garage garage and failed on an item, so they brought it to us for work, we did that item, but also did a quick check of car ourselves (duty of care) and found all sorts wrong with it.. the vehicle was no way road legal..

completely disagree with you on that 1 caz as all dealers are the shadiest people around and i no as half my mates work for various dealers,  garages can do mots really cheap to get the business then rely on servicing and mot work done by them selves to make there money back as said earlier in this post find a local cheap trusted garage and you be fine, obviously there is some dodgy garages around but thats how it goes in all businesses ie rogue traders lol (cowboys) = the stealers usually

I agree with you Caz. For 4 years I had my Z3 MOT'd by my dealer, it was picked up, MOT'd, dropped off with a full valet inside and out and I only ever paid the going MOT rate (last one was just under £54), and never had any advisories.

If I couldn't have the same service with VW I would be disappointed :(
