ARE CABRIO'S FASTER OF THE MARK?

HELLO ALL ,I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN LOOKING TO BUY A CABRIO AND HAVE DRIVEN QUITE A FEW AND THEY ALL SEEM A LOT FASTER OF THE MARK THEN MY MK2 GTI 8V.IS THIS A TRUTH THAT THERE FASTER OF THE MARK BECAUSE THERE ROOFLESS OR IS IT JUST ME?

A MK1 is a lighter car and certainly the tin tops were quicker. A MK1 CAB is heavier, having to be strengthened cross ways and underneath due to not having the support of the roof. Probably about the same, talking only a few seconds in it. Depends what you want, you want something to out run everyone else then a CAB aint for you, it is nippy but it aint meant for speed its meant for the summer and chillin with the roof down. if you want speed and if your going for the insurance of the GTI CAB then perhaps a 16v MK2 is what your after insurance wont be much different.

i have to agree cabs are not for speed! just for driven with the roof down! on the acceleration topic mark 2 gti are slightly faster than the cab gti!

i reckon that it depends on the car.  some have been looked after and some havent.  i dont think my cars slow but it isnt as fast as some mark 1 cabs and thats something i have to except.  its probably been treated badly at some point and it will need some real TLC to get it back to its best.  Its only done 65k but pre owned by a boyracer  

If you find a well looked after one im sure it will give its all. Just steer clear of racing any mark 1 tintops
