Anorak issue No plates!

As im nearing the completion of my Valver project (5 1/2 years!) Im starting to pick off the last little detailing jobs one by one...
next in the line for attention was the original front, and rear No plates  (G***JUG) with "Massingberd of Harrogate" written in a typical VW style font at the bottom of both plates, these are the very plates  that the car was issued with from day one! just a little scuffed, and tired looking, I decided to bring them back to life, so took them to work, and sanded them with 400 grit disc on the DA sander, working my way up to 2000 grit, and then machine polished for a perfect finish... only while sanding, I noticed that in the top left hand corner of each plate was the VAG logo, embossed into the plate, just visable in the pic.. how cool!
I now have a cunning plan that involves peeling off the old reflective backing, stencilling the dealer logo back on, and replacing the reflective vinyls with my cherished number rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

Good luck with that, the stuff used to stick the plastic to the backing will more than likely pull your lettering off and leave some of the backing attached to the plastic front. Bastards to peel off cleanly.

Trust me I don't think you will get them apart, I used to make number plates and you cannot get them apart after 10mins let alone 10years or more.

Yeah, they'll come apart OK, I've already made a repair to a small section that was damaged by the plastic grommet that the mounting screw fits into, water had got in between the perspex, and the decal, a neat repair by the way, I used a compass that has a scalpel blade attachment, cut and removed the damaged section, then did the same to an old plate that was kicking round, took a few goes mind, a little heat worked wonders, then carefully "let" the new section into position, all that's visible is a feint line, but the yellow background matches perfectly, as soon as I get the stencil made, and  my number transfered, I'll bite the bullet!

I noticed that in the top left hand corner of each plate was the VAG logo, embossed into the plate, just visable in the pic.. how cool!

that is the coolest thing I've heard in ages.  I'm going to go home and check if anythings embossed onto my plates.  I'll report back as soon as possible.

Massingberd of Harrogate!! My town. Well I can confirm that they no longer exist -but- maybe the next best thing is to get some `Harrogate VW` (which they are now, owned by Sytner) plates to continue the authenticity if your plan doesnt work?
