« on: 07 April 2009, 15:43 »
my gearbox mount is leaking fluid so need to replace it.  luckily theres a scrappy near me with about 10 mk3's sitting in it so gettin one isnt a problem, i just wanted to know is it a simple bolt off then bolt back on job and has anyone else had to do this, just after a bit of guidance and warnings i may need!

Id buy a new one if possible, not that easy to remove from a car in scrappy even if they are in 1 piece unless car is on good solid ground and you can get a jack under the engine.

to swap it, assuming you have an 1.8-2.0 8v:
1. pop header tank off bracket and place out of the way (no need to disconnect any coolant pipes)
2. pop off the 2 link rods from linkage on alloy bracket bolted to gearbox
3. undo large middle bolt from mount, jack gearbox up as high as possible
4. locate 3 bolts holding linkage bracket to gearbox and remove
5. undo 2 bolts holding mount to subframe, swap mount

benefit of gettin it from a scrappy is ill be able to see how to get it off rather than damaging mine, a few trail runs sort of thing, thanks for the guide though that really helps a lot!!!
