brake conversion

need to uprate ma brakes on the 8v, i know my best bet is 16v or g60 brakes, but i can get hold of the brakes from a mk3 gti 8v, i thinks theses will fit, not sure really, but i just wanted to know how they are compared to my stanard brakes and wat i need to take from the donnor car????

IIRC the MK3 sported 288mm front discs (5 stud), 280mm front discs (5 stud) and 256mm front discs (4 stud).

I'm probably horrifically wrong but that's the general gist of it.

Just do a search, there's a flippin goldmine of info on this!

Yea they're great, just need to do something with the rears now (which stick on all the time and are generally a bit poop!)

Must do some searching for rear upgrades!

A 280mm set up from a Seat Cordoba should see you right.  I wouldn't waste your time messing about trying to make G3 units fit - the upright and ball-joint etc is all quite different.  Better to go with the stuff that bolts right up IMO.

280mm stoppers are a massive improvement over the 239mm ones.  I suspect the extra money on fandango brakes over and above that would be a waste of cash.

Kittie, fit Golf4 rear calipers to your current discs - less failure and sticking.

the mk3 280mm calipers n carriers will bolt up and work on 4 stud 256+ hubs, which can be found on many models.  good one to look at are passats, often breakers charge you less for crappy auto passat front brakes than they do for funky awesome rarity MK2 16v front brakes, even though they're the same ;)
