Creaking noise from rear tailgate

Hi All,  I have a 2006 GTI and have owned it from new.  Over the past three years I have noticed that the ride has gone a lot harder than when I first drove it out of the show room (which is expected).

Consequently this has made me hear more creeks and general noise come from the car.  I did have a rattling noise come from the center vents on the dash, which I managed to sort out with some packing.  However, there is a rattle/creaking noise coming from the rear tailgate I think.  The cars never been in an accident and I'm not sure what to do as it does get annoying when the music is off and my little one is a sleep in the back.  I have no choice, but to drive the car with the creaking noise coming from the rear. 

Has anyone else experience this with their Mk5?

The first thing I usually check is that the rear seats are locked into place correctly. Sometimes they have a tendency to creak if not located.

Yea i had to use my car to transport a dishwasher recently and afterwards it was making an awful sound.  I didn't believe it would be something as simple as the seat but luckily it was

Hi guys,

The seats were in place as the red tab was sitting flush, but it was the rear parcel shelf that was not sitting correctly.

  wow winrya using the gti to move a dishwasher is a sin ive never even folded the rear seats down in my gti and never will either im very reluctant to even fill the boot up unless its clean and wont mark the interior plastics etc you mad man

yea i had covers everywhere and was really stressed.  This was for a new one, somehow (didnt think i could) i managed to fit the old one in our cooper s

This is the first thing I thought of when I read the title. Mine occasionally jumps loose (I've removed the shelf multiple times) and makes the noise.
