Windscreen wipers and rear GTi badge
« on: 03 April 2009, 17:43 »
Just a couple of quick ones...

Firstly, I tried to lift my wipers up off the screen earlier today in order to clean underneath (only had the car 2 weeks) and noticed that they catch the lip of the bonnet. I cant actually lift them that far off the screen, is this normal?

Secondly, and its only a trival thing. My 'GTi' rear badge is on the drivers side (offside). Most GTi's i've noticed have the badge on the passenger (nearside) side, Just wondered if that meant anything? The car has never had a crash, is 10 months old and a UK car brought from a main stealer?

Cheers

Never seen one with the GTI badge on the other side TBH..............

In regards to wipers, Im sure there is a process where it brings the wipers up a little for you to lift off. Try the manual.

For the wipers, turn on the ignition without starting the car then turn the ignition off, leave the key in then flick the wiper stalk downwards. The wipers should move to the vertical position and stay there.

As for the badge, I can only suspect it's had some bodywork/painting done to the hatch at some time before you got the car.
Without traction power is nothing!

Is it an import?

A few GTIs, which I'm lead to believe were imports, had "golf" on the left and "gti" on the right. It's entirely feasible that this is what you had and someone took off the 'golf' bit. Alternatively, someone put it on the right because they thought it looked better there.

As for the wipers, when they're in the 'service position' ie vertical, make sure you don't open the bonnet as this will damage it!

Cheers guys,

Sorted the wipers now so thats ok.

As far as the badge goes, theres no sign of damage anywhere. I'm checking with the main dealer to make sure its not an import as i was told by them it was 100% a UK car. V5 still not arrived as yet but i'll make some calls t'moro.

I wouldn't expect there to be any. The badge can be removed without damage and the paintwork can then be polished to the same standard as the rest of the boot.

:smiley:what i meant was, no sign of accident damage. Nothing to indicate a need to replace the rear hatch hence move the badge from one side to the other.

If you want to PM me your full VIN number, I can officially check the full spec of the car, including which market the car was actually built for (and therefore weather it is a genuine UK car, or an import).
