Urgent - please advise!!!!

Im off to Halfords in a few mins - but need to know which engine oil to get??!!!

I have Castrol Magnatec 5w30 in my garage, from my previous car - is it safe to top up with this for now??

If not, what exactly do I need to get?

Go to VW.


You need to know what sercive plan your car is on so you can get the right grade of Oil

Castrol EDGE 5w 30.
It is LL although it doesnt spefically say it on the front of the bottle. Even on T/D I think the majority of cars are still filled with LL oil!
If you go to VW they should have this on the shelf(it does has a different name-thats just their trade version of it!, Still Castrol tho).

IMO do not use the Magnatec but be prepared to pay around £14 for a litre of castrol edge 5W-30 at Halfords.

What he said, stick to Castrol!, its £14/£15 at halfords and the dealer. around £45 fot the bigger bottle. Theres been lots of threads over this, and I believe majority rules for Castrol.

Got a bottle of oil from VW - £15.
It was some Shell stuff though - cant remember the exact name. I'll check next time I go out.
They confirmed it was LL oil though and after reading the back it conformed to all standards etc fo rthe GTI.....
