im still on my tired pb, will have the 2e in there soonish though, im not too fussy about top end though, ive had a mk3 diesel and a gttdi 115 so i like my low down grunty torque

Yes but lets be honest they have nothing below 4k anyway.

I was talking to TSR about that car. Basically they were left with a blank cheque but very liitle time. The mods were based around a 1.9 rebore which makes most of it's power at the top end. The thing was built to do 8000rpm + because it needed to.

They had advised 5th Gear that a 2.0 would have made better power with more low down grunt, but due to time were not able to do that. The compramise was to build the 1.9 screamer, but the reality was that it did not make a very good road car.

I've just bought a 16V and it's taken me ages to learn how to drive it. My last Mk2 was an 8V and my daily is a Passat V6 TDI.

yeh but wat torque is there is available earlier, although i do base my knowledge on figures, i say this as ive never actually driven a valver 
infact im on my first mk2

the 16v  out grunts the 8v  all the way through the revs.  it just comes on cam at 4000 and out grunts the 8v even more.

i has driven a hell of a lot of 8v and quite a lot of 16v.     problem is 8 valves go flat at 5500   try driveing a 16v for a while then going back to an 8 valve  you suddeny find your self wondering just where is that mountain of low end torque cos i cant find it   

i'll allways pick 16v for a mk2  it just a very optimal.
