Personally I wouldn't buy a car with mileage much over 100k. Mine 8v is currently on 111k.

As long as the car has good service history though higher mileage isn't such an issue. I would want to be sure the car has been well looked after.

my trackday mk2 gti has 230k on its PB engine, its lasted 2 full track days so far, no engines troubles. the gearbox is another matter. if it makes it through the next one i'll be surprised, mileage is pretty irrelevant on things like brakes and suspension, as they will most likely have been changed atleast once. its smaller things like gearlinkages, stuff that isnt a regularly serviced item.

view and drive the car, easiest way.

Mine had done 158,000 miles when I bought it and it still feels as tight as a drum. My last 8V had done 151,000 when I got that too, and never gave any problems.

As for ebay, I never bid on anything until a few seconds to go. If you put your max bid in too early, there is more time for people to run you up. If the price is getting closer to your bid, or over it, it is too tempting to bid a bit more.

If I cant be around at the end of the auction, I use a bidding tool called Hammersnipe.(Google it and you'll find it) You pay $2.00 and it will bid for you as close as 3 seconds before the end of the auction. That way nobody can bid against you cos they dont know your bidding, and if the price does go over your max bid, well you dont win it. After all that is the whole point of setting a max bid.

You pay $2.00 to snipe an auction....

your mad, i use lotsnipe.com it's FREE, you can use 3 snipes a week free of charge... it's great and works a treat...

I wouldn't be too bothered as long as the body is straight.

Everyone would like a car that has done under the magic 100k but theres not many of them about that are 20 years old.

Mine has every reciept, service stamp and MOT up to just under 100k when it had a full engine rebuild, then every reciept and MOT till now with 135k on the clock.

I would alway's try to buy from someone you trust and or take a look at the car before bidding if its an ebay job.

Have you been to see it or driven it?

If neither then don't buy it - full stop!!!

my mk2 gti has about 246k on the clock and still starts on the button and never really gives any trouble. OK it loses a bit of oil and water but nothing drastic! original engine and gearbox, was bought on 213k miles with no service history.

its absolutely solid underneath and has only minimal rust on the shell.

more fun to drive than the other half's mk3 too  :lipsrsealed:

I don't think a semi will give the same results
