New Key?
« on: 02 April 2009, 14:48 »
I searched around a bit and couldnt find a perfect answer for this so here goes -

My golf 1.4s isnt cool enough to have remote locking so it just has the standard, no buttons non-flip key. However i only have one. How much would it set me back to get a new key? From VW or are there other ways? And also can I get a flip key cut and use that as my main key and keep my current key as my spare? :D

Thanks

flip keys you can get of fleabay, cant see why any key cutter place cant cut it to match yours, you might have to take the flip key bit off tho

ok cool, once the key is cut do I have to take it to VW to get coded to the immobiliser? and if i do does that cost me seventeen arms and 26 legs?

or are you saying i can get a blank key for £50 or less and get it cut and im done?

VW stealer would charge me 23.50 for key coding, and I'd have to book it on. (I think this is roughly based on 30 mins labour?).

They wanted £111 for a new flip key tho :(

They said they would try and code any key to my car but if it didn't work then its not their fault and I'd have to pay them anyway!

I just need to research my key and deffo make sure I get the same type - and I think I' right in saying that second hand keys can be recoded - available from ebay for £30 ish.

Make sure the part number and frequency of the remote matches your current key.

Be careful as second hand keys dont always recode properly.

It depends if the car thay were coded to is the same as yours ie immob2 or immob3
