What does this issue sound like?
« on: 01 April 2009, 22:59 »
Car seems to be having a few issues starting every now and again lately....

I turn the key and it just keeps turning over without firing up until I boot the accelerator

What does that suggest??

Injectors? MAF unit?

Its not been raining for the past few days so cant be a damp issue, also seems to be happening randomly but more and more frequently....anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Last proper service was June last year, as in all filters, oil etc done. Is it due another? How often should should it be serviced, oil, filters and all that?

I'm not saying I havent touched it since last June, it gets a lot of work done to it/general up keep.

Fuel pump did cross my mind....have a spare relay.

You tight f*cker.  Treat it nicely and drive it hard.

A PROPER servicing routine for a well driven GTI should be every 5,000miles.  If you're driving like a little girl then maybe stretch it to 10k.

The timing may have wandered a bit, maybe the injectors are shagged - there's a big list of stuff that degrades over time.  You will probably need to work through most of it and check stuff is OK to get your starting sorted.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Lol...Its not done 5,000 miles yet since June last year! Gets driven hard but not used very often.

Will start with a service then and work it from there I guess...

People often overlook leads when they're working through things and I've never figured out why  :undecided:

If you've not checked the cap, rotor arm, leads and plugs do it when you service it - these things can get in one helluva state as they age.

I once replaced a set of leads on a T25 Transporter, which it must have left the factory with about 18 years before - they were utterly minging and had been arcing all over the place.  It transformed the drive of the thing - loads more power etc.

My leads are in really good condition, only a year old. If you get the problem sorted drop me a pm so i can try the same :)

DH: Cap, rotor arm, leads are all good...looked over this when I had some damp start problems not so long ago.
Cant remember what the plugs looked like, they could pos be due a replacing.
