mkIII gearbox questions

no sorry if this has been posted already but i would like to know

i have the 2.0 engine with the 5 speed gearbox
will the six speed out of the newer generation mk's fit my car or will i need to just deal with the 5 speed

if it can be done i would like to know regardless of how hard it is to do  :cool:

Well it won't be a simple bolt on fix if at all possible? You can buy a 6speed kit for the 020 mk3 box but it's not cheap (try quaife.com for info)

Does that come with an LSD diff as well?

they sell them for £550!! (I'm unsure of the box but a 6speed is about £2500!)

Yea I knew they were very expensive!

had the chance to buy an LSD for my Pug once and that was £300 second hand! I didnt bother!

OK GUYS AND GIRLS NEW QUESTION: can the front end of a mk3 style passat fit the golf

i.e. headlights, grille , bonnet? if so i am set!

I doubt anything off that would fit, i dont think the Mk4 front even fits,  unless you get hold of the rare MK3.5 cabby front end.
