2l 8v gti advice plz
« on: 31 March 2009, 17:57 »
i have recently got a 1995 gti 2l 8v. the car is mint aswell as the engine. i wanted the 16v really but this car only had only done 63000 miles so couldnt resist. i was wondering what was the best way to beef the engine up (make it faster) without ruining it. and do induction kits actualy make a difrence.

Induction kit & a performance exhaust won't do any harm, not really going to get any power gains, but better response from the engine when you put your foot down.

A cold air feed is the best, i.e. K&N cone filter with a dedicated breather pipe or something like the BMC CDA kit.

The thing that's going to get you the most BHP from that engine is a good & proper service though, either by yourself or book it in to a good garage - I advise VAG parts throughout even if they cost a few more pennies!

Other than that unless you want to spend SERIOUS money (superchargers etc.) then just be happy aspiring to get the 115bhp it should have! :afro:

There is no point sticking a SC on it, if you want more power your a better of selling the 8v and getting a 16v (is the blunt way of putting it).

supercharging the 8v is becoming common now (thanks to the mini and cooper  )..have a look in the maintenece section at the top of this page for loads of info

oh and an 8v with supercharger will give 160bhp (ish) but all that torque low down    (I'm biased as i run and prefer the 8v and its lazy nature)
