Monza II's .... which finish to go for ?
« on: 30 March 2009, 08:07 »
I'm looking to change my Std 17" Monza's to a 18" size wheel on my 5 door Diamond black GTi. I would like to keep it "VW" so was thinking along the lines of fitting either Monza II's, R32's or ED30 style alloys. The problem for me is i'm undecided on which to choose as I like all three styles.
Whats the general feeling with you guys? Which look the best fitted. What have you fitted to your car? What are the pro's and con's of each style?

Any photo's/comments and/or suggestions would be appreciated..

Cheers

The Monza II's are the hardest to keep mark free IMO - unless you're a really careful driver!
Personally I'd go for the Pescara's on the ED30 ;)

I would go with the Monza II to be honest as they were a GTi option. If you fit the other two designs it will look like your trying to make the car into something it isn't, plus the prive of the Ed30 wheels will be a lot more due to be quite limited...

Nothing wrong with going for something aftermarket. As long as the alloys look in keeping with the car and you don't end up getting some horrible chrome/bling wheels then you should be okay. VW alloys, Audi style alloys, BBS, Schmidt etc all have good history with being used on Golfs and so be a little more adventurous

My alloy history on my current car.

Pescara's

Dare shark

Team dynamics (a popular choice as they are lightweight BTCC wheels)

And BBS CH Black edition (currently on the car - 19" but you can get 18")

Depends whether you can deal with hassle and enjoy cleaning wheels on a weekly basis??

If you can then the monza'a are one of the best wheels fitted on a production car (IMO) and certainly make the car stand out far more than the pescara's.  However, pescaras are still a nice looking wheel and can be picked up cheaper than a pristine genuine set of monza 18's.  I'm not keen on the first run of r32 wheels but the very last ones look very nice IMO and would select them ahead of pescaras but again, they look like they may suffer white worm??
