Keeping it clean after a big clean!
« on: 29 March 2009, 21:22 »
Evening!

Spent most of the day giving the car a good going over, wash and dry, Klasse all in one, Collonite wax and Meguirs dressing on the tyres, as well as the usual vac inside and Autoglym fastglass on the windows.  Serious effort from somebody who normally gets by on a quick wash (I thought my hands were going to fall off buffing off the wax...lol).  But it does look great.  Just wondering the best way to keep it that way, being realistic I'm not going to want to spend loads of time each week doing that again so am hoping the groundwork today will make it easy to stay on top of.  In terms of the paintwork, was thinking next time I do a quick wash, if I use Dodo juice "time to dry" when I dry with the towel, then Dodo juice red mist, would that keep things looking good without interfering with the products already on?  Or should I be topping up the wax everytime I wash?  All advice gratefully received.  Its a black mark 5 GTI by the way.

waxing once a week would make it easier to keep on top of but not essential.
mid week or once a week give it a flick over with some wash and wax to stop it getting really crappy.

To keep on top of it I normally just give it a quick wash with meguirs nxt shampoo, quick dry with towel (megs) and then megs speed detail per panel then every 4 months or so do a proper job on it.  I don't work for megs just find their products work for me :nerd:

If i was you give it another wash next weekend then add another layer of Coli
Then after that just wash and go over with your Dodo Red Mist this will keep the car looking good for upto 6 months.

When you can see the wax not protecting as it used to its time to do it again.

With Coli wax its best to leave it before adding another coat. Give it time to cure. I always leave it a week before my second and another before my third. I did this in November last year and its still ok now.

Thanks for the tips, will give it a wash this weekend, another coat of wax then will use the red mist to keep it looking good without spending my life on it hopefully!  Love black cars when they're clean, but this lasts about 1 day before they're dusty, dirty etc etc!!!  Cheers!

Thats what I do but with Optimum spray wax ( http://www.motorgeek.co.uk/optimum-sizes-p-167.html ) instead of Quick Detailer, as it shines/beads almost as well as Colly, is uber easy to apply, its also a drying aid, and is still reasonable value for money.
