Strange really isn't it, years ago a car's mechanicals were all easily repaired by anyone with competance, yet the bodies rotted away in about five to six years thus rendering them pretty worthless after a short life span. Nowadays the bodies last forever yet the rest of the car is full of stuff that can't be fixed very easily and loads of electrical gizmos that don't even get attempted repairs, the 'technicians' just whip 'em out and chuck a new one in. I bet half the time it's only a simple bit that's gone wrong resulting in a whole replaced component at £££££
I still think the mk2 Golf is the most complete car ever, if well looked after the body lasts indefinately, there aren't that many high tech bits in it to go wrong and the car was screwed together properly from the factory. It was a decent size for a family yet small enough to fit in a parking space etc etc.
Or am I wearing rose tinted specs?
