Hi guys,

Having spent a while reading on these forums, I know you are the font of all knowledge when it comes to Mk2s.  I'm considering buying one which has been advertised as having a quaife LSD and TSR 16v engine.  I'm planning on arranging a viewing this weekend, but can anyone tell me how I'd be able to tell if this work has actually been done to the car (believe it or not, there are some unscrupulous types out there!).  Is there anything to look for or would you have to strip the gearbox/engine to see this?

Also, while I’m here – are 16v all digifants or not?  How do you tell?

As I said in the title, I’m a newbie here and so any help to start my Mk2 ownership off well would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

All mk2 16vs are kjets with the KR engine.  The 8v got the digifant from late 88 i think.

As for knowing if the work has been done, receipts would be a good start.

Mk2 GTI 16v
Mk2 Scirocco 8v

If it is a TSR engine it should be blue plus stamped by the engine number will be a small no which you shoud be able to go to Tsr and get the spec and build date.

if it has a LSD in it , you turn one wheel with the cars wheels off the ground and they both turn the same way :)

if it is a normal diff they turn opposite ways
