You should have got 2 keys with the car. If you got it from a dealer, go back to them. If you bought privately, go back to the seller. If you only have 1 key, it means someone still has a coded key which could be used to access and drive your car at any time in the future

At the very least, you should have the system recoded to reduce this risk.

Exactly what I wa sthinking cass. Someone could just come with the spare key and take the car right away!!
I would strongly advise recoding the system if you havent got both keys.........then again, would it be a good idea to recode anyway?? I mean, if you purchase from a private seller, if would be much safer to recode the keys since you dont know how if any others were made and coded before you took the vehicle!!

Maybe thats taking it a little too far - but you never know in todays world!
How much are you looking at to get the keys recoded, and what does the process involve?

Get one off fleabay, get a blank key laser cut and then pay the dealer to recode it - should be less than £50 all in!

I tried an ebay key, got it cut..but the dealers couldnt code it and gave up after half a day trying different software to do it.... this was around a year ago though so the keys may be different now

My audi dealer ordered me a new key only and I fitted it to my ebay fob - I had to show them the V5 doc and prrof of address though.

BTW, Audi 'only' charged me £25 to recode the key - you can do it with vag-com, but I didn't bother DIY at this price.
