Fast Idle speed on MK2 GTI 16V 1991
« on: 25 March 2009, 09:10 »
Hi,
just wondered if any one has any ideas?
My 16V has just started idling when warm at about 1600rpm.
When started from cold it revs higher than normal and then settles at just over 1000 but when its up to temp it revs higher.
Someone said check the air breather pipes and stuff round the airbox. I have replaced all the old connector pipes and cleaned up anything I can see thats full of muck but she still ildes fast.
I also checked for splits in pipes but did not find any.
Any ideas?

swap the wires on the sensors on the side of the head over, see if that helps :)

At each service interval, mine always needs a small tweak to the idle speed as over time it goes out a little. Perhaps just try resetting it (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=22031.0)

(If RJ's suggestion doesn't cure it)
