i know you have taken pictures but i just read this.
if you are taking pictures to be used as evidence you must always use something as scale ie a ruler or pace something people know the size of ie a coke can in the hole. otherwise should you need to go to court ther is no real proof of how bad it was. any thing in the distance would be hard to judge. this is alway done in forensic science and is good practice.
