CE1 to CE2 electrics conversion
« on: 24 March 2009, 18:40 »
as i'm haveing electrical gremlins with my engine loom after my engine blew up and caught fire and have what i think is complete ce2 loom and fusebox,  so thinking about converting my syncro to CE2,  the question is  just how much stuff do i have to swap or is any of it compatable.

as i'm planning to do some loom modifactions to optomise rear battery, and have ce2 engine and whoel cars looms as well thought may as well convert.
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

I had someone buy all the bits off me a while ago to do this and he pretty much had every loom as everything that goes to the fusebox needs changing

Did this on a mates MKJ2, doable in a day not particularly difficult. You need:
fusebox
clocks
stalks
ign lock housing and switch (old ign lock can be fitted to 90spec housing)
fusebox hanger
steering column outer tube
pretty much entire loom
header tank, or splice pre-90 plug to 90 loom
indicators, sidelights and horn looms have different plugs, swap or splice
lift pump, 90spec has 4 pins, pre-90 has 3. I think you might be able to disconnect the fuel pump loom near the round metal disc and keep the pre-90 loom section that runs outside of car?

FYI the tailgate loom can be disconnected either behind boot carpet or c pillar trim, so no need to drag it all out and swap

yarg its not particularly difficult, hardest part is getting it sitting neatly again, especially up behind the fusebox!  Another thing I forgot to mention is the heated washer jet wires are a bit odd, they run along the top of the dash support bar rather than with the main loom. I just spliced these into the CE2 fusebox.  Oh and the central locking loom in the drivers door can be left in place and swapped over no bother if you have factory cl :)
