Purports to be genuine and with a blank service book pack - how nice, someone's probably gonna get their GTI nicked and sold on with false docs

i have it as a spare. It didnt come with the service book so i got one to complete it what if you lost your orginal service pack for your car???. also how does this justify that someone will steal a car just cos im selling a service pack for a gti do you think about that when buying other car parts that they might all be stolen think about things before commenting thanks.

I did think about this carefully before I posted.

There were several issues to my mind that are suspect with you selling this.

Firstly, when you buy a car, you are supplied with a single set of manuals and service book for that particular car. A genuine dealer and owner will keep these safe and have the service record stamped up to show the provenance and integrity of the car as this will be reflected in any valuation and sale price. Selling on a car with original documents obviously enhances any sale.

Secondly, if I lost my service pack, I would go to my dealer and get a duplicate and have them stamp the service book up. This is the correct way to do this. My last car had a duplicate service book and it was legitimately stamped as a DUPLICATE by the supplying dealer - presumably the original was retained by the previous owner for whatever reason. I wouldn't sell on any replacement documents under the guise of being a spare, I would return it to the dealer. I do find it somewhat unethical that you are doing this.

Thirdly, you have actually added the service book to the user manual to enhance the saleability of the item, not just on eBay but also in advertising it here on an enthusiasts GTI forum. I accept that the service book will not have the original vehicle specification sticker but the fact remains that there are unscrupulous people out there who would manipulate this opportunity to their own ends. 

The Mk V GTi is now at an age when it is more accessible to younger buyers, who may get caught up in the thrill of owning such a car and who may not question it's authenticity if a service book is supplied with the car. There are also owners who have bought parallel imports from car supermarkets who have not been supplied with the correct documentation. The potential for misrepresentation should be obvious.   

In fairness to you, I think you should state how you have acquired the manual as a spare and identify the original car it came from, as well as stating if you are connected to the motor trade and/or a trader in vehicle parts.   

This is a responsible VW GTI forum and we all benefit from the information shared.

In the past when some import cars came without an english manual, writing to VW for one sometime resulted in them sending you a full english owner's manual with a service book that was unmarked.

I know of one person who actually received two from VW! That person did what Fatty B is now doing.

Like i said in my first post and also advistised this is a replacment or extended service book pack. Yes you are correct in saying that a car only has one when sold from a dealer and it comes with the details of the car. Answer me this question the why do VW freely sell data stickers and duplicate service books and also the complete bookpacks for cars that have been sold, would you then say they are aiding criminals to steal cars and change the idenity of a car. At the end of the day im sell and service book pack and offered it on here just incase some might have lost theres or misplaced it (these things do happen) im doing nothing WRONG.

And like you said inports dont come with the book pack so WHAT WOULD YOU DO THEN CASS??? go to the dealer and pay £££. I should not have to come on here and tell you my whole life story about how i got a service bookpack so i can sell it also CASS you didnt want to buy it so i still dont see why you commented, just to add your 2 pence worth. how many other forum uses have expressed there concern about this. hold on wait for it!!!!!!!!!!

My originals were Dutch.
Allbrandsnew had English ones sent from VW after a week or so.
I hope you get more than 99p (as it stands)

Cass has some valid points here, but you seemed to have missed the point.  This line in your post sums up your attitude...

Errr, it doesn't matter who, it matters that a dodgy person can obtain your blank service book on ebay and palm it off as genuine to someone buying a used car.  You aren't doing anything wrong, its just common sense.  How would you like it if the police turned up and told you the second hand car you brought was in fact stolen and they used a duplicate service book to make the car seem genuine.  Now I'm not insinuating that you would fall for this, but sadly it does still happen.

A while back I got a UK manual from VW UK for my Mk4 import, however I destroyed the blank service book for exactly those reasons.  I had to give all my car details and VIN to VW UK to prove it was legit.
I find it hard to believe you could convince a main dealer to sell you a blank service book, without providing genuine details, but maybe I'm wrong.
