If we are talking about a std gti v 330d (08) then the bmw will have it hands down all day every day.

So will the old one. I was looking at the 330d and 335d before I purchased my Golf, the Golf is swift, but in every day driving it wont touch an E92 330d post or pre Sept 08.

Nearly!

335d is 286bhp stock, but its the torque of 500nm which just blows everything away! Thats double the Golf Gti :)

330d new one is 245bhp, old was 230bhp. A chipped 245 330d will match a stock 335d its that good. Sadly my budget couldnt stretch to a 58 plate of any E92 :(

But the 230bhp 330d is still very rapid, and actually a bit more involving to drive - very different animal to the 335d.

But back to the GTi... to me its a totally different car so not right to compare, but I was totally smitten with it personally. I think its a lovely motor, and unbelievably pleased with my purchase!

I've had my fill of fast saloon cars.
You just can't get things into them.
Good for the weekly shop but when you want blokey things like ladders, fence panels, bicycles, cookers, 50" TVs and the like they are just useless.

Fast saloon cars is a phase men have to go through.  It's a revelation and a joy when you realise you can do better.

Im thinking coupe not saloon. the only thing that would convince me about the saloon is the smaller doors for when parking in the garage.. or if a seriously good offer came my way for a 4dr.

I owned a Z3 for 5 years. I had no issues with space. The coupe is a beautiful car, and a great comprise on practicality, looks and performance and style.

But then again I'm a single guy in my 20s.... what the f*ck do I need a ladder for? :D

ok carl 1, well if your getting a gti you more than deserve your say here lol just read whole post again a suppose the other guy is a childish willy waving m3 cock as clarkson says no harm in some harmless banter tho ey oh and one thing that i hate about gti is the flimsy rear boot badge/handle and i also dont like the high number of common faults that ive read on this forum some of which im already experiencing, have only had the car a couple of months and have used the warranty on more than enough occasions, still loving it though, miles ahead of my type r civic
