Rhyso have you got a link to the pancake pipe thread?

My 1.8T has oil around it and I seem to be topping up the oil every week

hmm that doesn't sound good!

see this link

do you notice any puddles under the car if its been stood??  whats the performance like? any smoke out the exhaust?

Performance seems fine, theres no black smoke or oil puddles.
Every week the oil level drops from right in the middle of the dipstick to just above minimum, I take it this is not normal for these engines?

no you shouldn't be topping the oil up every week!! unless you do over 1000 miles a week........

most will only have to top around 0.5 to 1 litre between each service, some won't need a top up at all

i take it you check the oil when the engine is cold??

Argh damn car.

Yeh the engine is completely cold when checked. I noticed that there was a bit of oil around the pipe that is connected to the pancake pipe so I cleared it all off and checked it the following week and it had oil on it. The jubilee clip did seem a bit loose though?

intercooler or turbo end??  if you can pop the connection off between the pancake pipe and the intercooler and look in there

if it literally pours out you have a problem; if its a thin film then thats normal as per the thread i posted a link to

worse case scenario is that the seals on your turbo are on the way out

Turbo end I think, sorry Rhys havent had the car long so not too clued up on turbo stuff. It's the rubber pipe coming from behind the engine that connects to the pancake.

I'll have a look tomorrow in the pipe. If the turbo seals need replacing am I looking at a huge bill?

no worries mate - that does sound like the turbo pipe

sadly yes - it will be either a refurb (if thats possible - not sure about the seals) or new turbo
