Horn problems

Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction to fix this.

Basically the other halfs horn has stopped working on her '94 mk3 Golf GTI. I've had a quick look tonight before it got too dark and narrowed it down a bit, but need help to get closer to the problem.

1) First off, I believe there are two horns (high & low?) on the mk3 so I've ruled out the horn itself failing as one would still work - is this right?

2) Where are the two horns located? - I believe one's behind the bumper, drivers side?

3) At the other end, fuse is fine (fuse #13 - 10A) and contacts in steering wheel are fine as relay clicks when pressed - I'm assuming the relay clicking means it is working correctly?

4) So if someone can tell me all my assumptions above are right, the fault must lie somewhere in the wiring between the fuse box and the horn. So my next step is to check any wiring, connections and earth locations I can find. Looking at the wiring diagram I think the earth location is in the headlight loom - can anyone narrow this location down a bit for me?

5) Finally, any suggestions of anything else that could be causing this to help me in my quest?

Sorry for so many questions, but need to check I'm right in what I've said so far before I go looking in the wrong place and completely miss something really obvious!!

If it doesn't have airbags, pull the horn switch off. Turn the ignition off and touch the wires to the metal on the wheel. If it works, clean the switch contacts.

Would the relay clicking when horn is pressed not indicate the contacts are fine in the steering wheel?

Hmm. Looks like it's a horn fault then.

Sorry to be vague, you need to find the horn and run a meter up to it to see if it's getting 12v.

Looks like the multimeter will be coming out tomorrow to check all the connections in the hope I find something - I hate electrical problems, and this car's had more than it's fair share!!

Can anyone answer any of the questions I had in the opening post? - just want to make sure I've ruled out the right things before I delve any deeper.

Any idea on this one guys because I have the exact same problem. Little tick noise from fuse area when I press the horn but no honk. Fuse is okay.

Horn needs to be earthed too.

Turned out to be the actual horn not working on mine. There are two horns and both had failed. One is easier to get to than the other and I just ended up fixing this one. To test it just connect it up directly to the battery. They apparently get jammed up, and if it's not working give it a tap with a bit of wood or something to loosen it up.

check you get 12v to the black/yel wire on the horn connector, if not the feed wire is at fault along the way somewhere, check you have 12v at the fuse socket.  If you do get 12v there earth the other pin to the chassis and the horn should work.  If so the horns are fine and the earth path is at fault, if not the horns are bust
