MK4 40K Service
« on: 19 July 2004, 02:52 »
Morning all.

New to the site, been posting on club18t.com up till now (wasn't aware of this site but there seems to be tons of stuff on here)

My 01 1.8T is due it's major 40K service.  Is it worth doing it through a dealer (they want about ?250 for it) it would it be better to do it through an independant garage?

Hi and welcome to the site.

Personally I would prefer to use a good independant garage. However, when it comes to selling the vehicle I'm sure that there will be many potential buyers that would prefer to see a full VW service history. It also appears that some dealerships are better than others. I have two about the same distance from me: Whites of Camberley who I don't rate at all and Martins of Basingstoke who I do rate and would use if I felt that it was important to keep my VW service history.

Cheers for the info.  After a bit of searching the net i've managed to find an independent vw specialist in Basingstoke called Grantley's, unless they're a lot cheaper i'll opt for Martins which is my nearest dealer

Hi and welcome to the site. Just to add my opinion, if I was buying a car a FSH would be fine for me rather than a FVWSH, just because it gets done in the stealership doesn't mean that they actually do a better job than a good independant garage.  :)
......now officially dubless.

Mine didn't have a FVWSH, just a FSH.  Didn't bother me.  Only take mine to stealerships for warranty type stuff.

Cheers all.

The local independant VW want 160 (inc. VAT) which is a damn sight cheaper than VW themselves.  Guess i'll be going for the independant.
