Old Girls staring to rust!
« on: 20 March 2009, 13:50 »
Nope, not on about my wife,
The Golf is starting to rust around the drivers door and a bit on the bottom of the nearside rear door,
Any idea how much it should cost to get this fixed, probably a sandback and then small panel respray,
I only ask as I dont want to phone about 30 companies only to go with the most expensive one just because its local,
Sorry for the stupid questions guys, but thanks for your answers!!

It depends on how bad the rust is...mine had 3 stone chips that had started to rust and I've being quoted £130 to get the 3 bits (both door bottoms and 1 wing bottom) painted or £200 for the whole bottom lot painting..

It can vary, it's just a case of finding a bodyshop that'll not screw you over, best bet is do some research in local or nearby areas, gather the prices and then report back. :)

ok cool,
I did notice the thread in the sticky section on how to do it yourself, but think I would get scared, or just balls it up!
£120 doesnt sound too bad,
Just annoying that I need to service my car and buyingsome new wheels for her.

I'm in the same boat in regards to rust and having no experience in doing it myself. Mind you, it's probably not all that hard getting rid of the rust, the hard part if painting the area to match the rest of the car. What I'm going to do is treat the rust and primer it and get a bodyshop to spray it for me, hopefully that'll be a better option.

Was it you who painted your own? I don't want to do that if so because the finish won't be what I want, but I know a bodyshop will make it shine like the main bodywork :)
