I used to have an S-line A4, not as fresh looking as the white one pictured, very  - it was the older style....But I saw one of these just yesterday & I think they look really aggressive in white with s-line trim, plus those daytime runners are well smart.

I drove mine to the south of france & arrived without an ache or pain, really smooth ride, comfortable....you could say thats the problem, just too comfortable, if your into comfort over fun then go for it - I ended up selling mine to my dad

Well, whilst my S4 may be "vintage", it will put the Tdi in its place. I semi agree with the handling statement. I've driven the both the new A4 and S3/4 range. Mine isn't that far behind (all things considered).

This post isn't based on dented pride considering what appeared as slagging my car off ;) It's based on my findings - I don't spend my money carelessly ;) :)

Dan :)

No not slagging it off at all.

There is quite a difference in the "chassis" between your version of the A4/S4 and the current versions. Your S4 would definitely put a current 170 TDI in its place... and I never said it wouldn't; however, I prefer the handling of the newer version - they're more nimble in my view.

As i said I like the 2.7 Twin Turbo engine and whilst the grip in the S4's and the A6TQS I had was fine the handling was not great, very lazy turn-in, tendancy to understeer etc...

I driven the cars in question so the opinions I express are based on my findings too

I wholeheartedly agree with you on the laziness - also reflected in the other poster's comments. It's just LAZY to drive. Easy. Boring!

I know what you mean about the "nimbleness" - I was SOOOO disappointed with the S3. I thought with effectively 10 years of development, the car was going to be great. And it was.... in a straight line. :(

Went into a GTI straight after, and it was grin after f'in grin!! Even the percieved missing 65bhp didn't make that much difference. The GTI was much more planted (on the exact same test route).

Which just goes to show, there's more to a car than b@lls-out acceleration! :)

In response to the original poster ;), wait for the Audi - grow in to one. I'm pretty sure I went into mine too early, hence my changing now (if I can ever find the right damn car!!LOL! :) )
A mate of mine went from a Scooby P1 to an RS6 Avant. Sorted the dodgy suspension (that Audi STILL can't fix!! ) and has spent additionally £££££KKKKK sorting it to go even faster. Yet he still says, it's a barge. If you like that sort of thing ;)

All IMHO ;)

you could get a  BMW 335i for the same price - so why would you want a white rep mobile that looks like a Citreon? lol!

I think Martin , you will get bored of that rather quickly. Its a Mundain car under a loud colour.

Been there and bought the family style car , and regretted selling the GTi. Cost me a few grand loss aswell.

I've just come from a 450bhp RS4 (apparently from the vintage era ) and a stage 2 ed30 dsg is not that far off in the dry - in the wet it will be a different matter though - that is when quattro comes into its own! (and BTW, the RS4 and S4 have permanent 4WD which is virtually unchanged from the original quattro Torsen setup).

some good reasons but get a remap for the GTI and it will outrun the A4 all day long

plus if you buy an A4 you will become a  c o c k as Jeremey Clarkson pointed out in Top Gear
