is this a decent quote??
« on: 18 March 2009, 15:50 »
a mate of a mate has just started doing machine buffing and polishing for £40 per car. he currently works in a bodyshop so he knows what he is doing! is this a decent quote or is he screwing me over?

im hoping it might get rid of some dreaded car wash brush marks that the previous owner left me! there only fine scratches but in certain light it looks awfull!

depends on the work being carried out.. as chuff has said... I presume that he is preparing the paintwork before he slams the rotary polisher onto it...

and being in a bodyshop I am presuming that he will take paint depth measurements in order to make sure he doesn't fcuk your clearcoat with the rotary?

when you see the number of "bodyshop f**ked my paint" threads, i dont think the fact he works for a bodyshop means much!

£40 a car.... if he's any good its a bargain. if he's not, its a waste of beer money. go have a look at some black cars he's donw in direct sunlight and decide for yourself....

as said above check his work out first. £40 is a major bargain IF he's good. my prices start at £150 for a small vehicle paint correction.

guy: you can go straight at paint with a rotory on low speed after you've obviously washed and dryed etc claying isnt a must everytime you detail a car, it wont cause any major damage, paint depth guages??????????? ive been detailing for 14yrs now and a paint depth gauge has never crossed my palms and ive never had anyones paint f*ck up on me  only major improvements.

look for consistancy across each panel as a whole, if he presses too hard there will be holagraming which will flicker in the sun light as you walk round the car,

so yes in a nut shell you will be able to see if he fooks up anywhere, also be awair that when hes been over the car with the machine it may uncover things you couldnt see before.

can anyone else elaborate on what ive said as im no good with words really, better explaining it when its infront of me;)
