VR6 alloys... bargain or duffer?
« on: 17 July 2004, 22:13 »
Hi.  I'm now the proud owner of a set of 17" Mille Miglia VR6 alloy wheels.  I got them in two separate pairs off ebay, one pair 7.5J, the other 8.0J.  All four wheels are in major need of refurb.  I paid ?20 for a pair of wheels like in the piccie below, and ?50 for the 8.0J pair, but got 4 reasonable toyo proxes t1-s tyres as well.  So, hopefully after spending around ?150 - ?180 on refurbing I should have myself a nice spare set of blinging 17s for trackdays and stuff.  8)

Also, what do people know about slight bends in wheels.  one of the 8J alloys has a slight point on it where about 5cm of the outer rim bends slightly out.... Can they be heated up a bit and dinged back to "true" - or should I leave that to the alloy wheel refurber to decide and do it if necessary...?  Cheers

I wouldnt start trying to repair them yourself, Let the refurbishers do it, some of them are able to straighten the wheels out if they are not too bad.
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

Thats ideal.  I wasn't really planning on doing itmyself, given I've got no metal heating up gear, but I wanted to check a refurber can do it easy enough!  Its not a significant bend - I couldn't even spot it when I picked up the wheels, so I should think it won't be an issue!
