Don't hate me - but I need Peugeot help!

Anyone here familiar with Pug engines, the TU1JP mostly.

My mums car broke down last night, engine management light blinked on and idle was crap - but it revved up fine. I undid a breather in the throttle housing and the revs picked up and it sat perfect - so I guessed it was the ICV.

I grabbed a new one from GSF, put it on, and now its going mental. Immediately after starting, the revs fire up to 3000rpm and hold there for 30s, then start bouncing between 2000-3000 rpm rhythmically.

The engine management light is still on, I have no diagnostic equipment.

Either I've got a dud ICV or its something else. Has anyone else come across this before?

My daughters TU3JP engine does this from time to time, usually cleaning the icv solves it.

Try squirting brake or carb cleaner into the old one, leave it a whille and shake it out. Then put the old one back in and see if it helps.

Another similar problem was the ecu temp sensor failing.

GSF and Eurocarparts sensors and electrical bits are renowned for being rubbish.

The old ICV is a gonner, when I took it out - it sprang apart!

I'll double check the temp sensors to make sure they're all hooked up.

The part is only 2 hours old - Siemens one too I'm going back out for another look, then I'll be by GSF in the morning for another.

Just another thought - try resetting the ecu by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, this will allow the ecu to reset and learn new values from the components.

Yeah, I tried the battery disconnected, but no joy.

HOWEVER ... I disconnected the MAF, started it up and let it idle (albeit badly). Clicked the ign on and waited for the ECU relays to click, nothing, switch the ign off and on again, nothing, 5 more clicks later and the relays click and the fuel pump primes.

I reconnected the MAF and watched the IACV move - so now it was operational. I started it up and sure as anything, the car idled and ran perfect. I turned it off again, clicked the ign on - waited for the relays to click, then off, then repeat 4 more times and the engine management light has reset.

I remember reading somewhere that for certain ECU errors that they can be reset by X many successful ign primes.

All peachy now, car starts, runs and idles perfecto. I've got mad Peugeot fixing skillz
