URGENT HELP NEEDED....

Hi all,
my name is Aaron Joyce im new to this forum but have been into mk2 golfs for years.
I have a mk2 gti 91 (J REG) it was a 8v.I put a 2.0 8v seat engine into the car 2years ago,but 2mts ago the ecu gave up,just my luck,
so I had a 16v gti engine out of a 1988 mk2.I got a lad I know to do the swap the engine the loom everything ,timing belt,full service,
The mechanic got the car running it will turn over but major problem ITS NOT PICKING UP ANY POWER WHEN THE PEDAL IS PUT DOWN.
we have checked the vaccum pipes but cannot find the problem.CAN ANY1 PLEASE HELP???
The car is of the road 3mts now.

if its idles but wont pick up then re-check the timing marks, top pulley & bottom. alot of times when fitting 16v belt and then tightening up the tensioner it will end up a tooth out

Thanks for the advise ,before i changed the plugs it was sounding very rough and we thought the cause of the roughness and no power was the plugs but it didnt solve the problem.but i will give your advise a go .
