OIL buzzer problem!
« on: 13 March 2009, 16:34 »
HI Dubs,

My MK2 16v (just bought) has a periodic problem with the oil buzzer !

When im driving and the car gets upto temp, the water temp gauge will go to 3/4 and then the oil light on the dash will flicker once
and buzz, then stop after a second or two. it doesn't do it any other time. I have a seperate oil pressure gauge and it says my pressure is fine
always above 2 bar.

any ideas? electrical problem or bad sensor ?
is there a seperate sensor for the buzzer on the 16v ?

cheers.

id say you might have a bad earth on the cylinder head, check any brown wires plus the braided wire from head to coil bracket.

the sensor for oil buzzer is the white one on filter housing, buzzer should trigger if revs are over 2kish and pressure is below 1.8 bar.  if buzzer sounds below around 2k then you may have a dash or rev counter/rev signal fault.  does the rev counter ever go loopy?

This might seem a bit too simple, but mine occasionally does this when I haven't changed my oil in a while - it will buzz once for a split second while warming up. Now I;ve changed my oil, the problems gone away.

The oil is new according to the receipt. but was thinking of changing and the oil filter too. just in case.

I was wondering if it might be a bad earth, because the water gauge also occasionally shoots up. but mostly at half way. the oil is never below 1.8 bar. according to my annaloge gauge, it does it when the oil temp reaches over a 100, but only for a split second.

is that normal ???

rev counter never goes loopy.

cheers mike. :undecided:
