Need help with MFD2 Sat Nav unit!

My Dad has a MKV Golf R32
It originally had the RCD500 with iPod connection. I have an iPod classic 160GB and it used to run fine with the RCD500.
I have recently fitted the MFD2 Sat Nav unit (the newer version with the brushed alloy look buttons). I plugged the iPod connection into the new MFD2 but it does not seem to be registering the iPod and not playing it?
Any suggestions?
I think its highly unlikely that the MFD2 has a "damaged" connection and have been told by someone that I may need to have the MFD2 iPod compatibility "switched on" via VAG-COM?
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll need to vag com the mfd2 first other wise it will not register with the ecu so things like your ipod and cd changer will not be picked up.
Even small things like the TMC if you have the disc for it will not show cos the ecu will not give the mfd2 the cars functions i.e speed pulse sensor and other electronics.

Is that done with the MFD2 all wired up and fitted in the car or doe sit need to be done before I fit it?
Is there anyone on here that can give me a guide (just incase I cant find someone near me) so I can take it up to my local dealer. They should be able to sort it shouldnt they?

yes the mfd2 needs to be in situ other wise once its coded it may not accept the coding cos it carn't find the nav unit or it will code but will throw a error up saying it cannot find the nav unit. VW dealer will code it for you poss charge you about £60 for the privilage though.

I am in Burnley, Lancashire
The Sat Nav works fine with the disc and map, etc and the key code I got with it has gone in fine.
Is that right?

yep the sat nav will work fine but some of the feature that need the input from the car will not. If you go on uk-mkivs.co.uk and find the vag-com owner's location thread there should be someone in your area with vag-com who can code this and any thing else you need doing.
