Air filter
« on: 11 March 2009, 15:19 »
Hey guys.

I want to buy a new air filter for my 16v. Im thinking either a Pipercross Induction kit or a BMC CDA.

http://venommotorsport.com/product_details.php?id=13877&manufacturer=Pipercross&category=Filter

As there is such a huge difference in price (BMC one is twice the price) Is there any advantage of having a carbon fiber one (other than a cool looking bay?)

What will I need to buy on top of the kit? if anything?

Are either of these oil based or whatever messes up the MFA? Im confused by what everyone means by oil based tbh but I just don't want to mess anything up by putting one on :undecided:

Is there any better ones I could get?

Cheers :)

You do actually spray oil over the Pipercross kits, apparently that can mess up the MFA.

Never used or seen the BMC used so can't comment.

the bmc filter is enclosed in the carbon housing to stop heat soak. They have one end as a cold air intake and the other end goes to your tb.
The pipercross one is just a normal induction kit that without a proper cold air itnake and a proper heatshield it will jsut suck in loads of hot air.
Ive just recieved though the post my pipercross panel filter and ive already drilled the airbox, so should make a nice difference.

as chuff said, induction kit can make ur car run crap.
thats why i bought a panel filter rather than an induction kit, all the benefits of more air without downsides.

really? thats wierd then. Would understand why an induction kit would cause bad running but panel filter should be fine.

performance wise the best you can do is an enclosed system like the bmc with a direct air feed from the front of the car.
